Scenic Stretch of Trail Added at Ray Lake Forest Preserve

A new 0.36-mile trail at Ray Lake Forest Preserve in Wauconda connects the Fort Hill Trail to scenic woodlands and a lake overlook. The project expands access, restores habitat and was funded in part by a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant.

Land Sale Approved to Expand Fort Sheridan National Cemetery

The Lake County Forest Preserves approved selling 4.7 acres at Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for $610,000. The land will add columbaria for cremated remains, extending burial space for veterans and spouses.

Lake County Forest Preserves Adds New Winthrop Harbor Site, Expands Kestrel Ridge

Lake County Forest Preserves approved creating a new preserve in Winthrop Harbor and expanding Kestrel Ridge near Round Lake. The $8.18M in acquisitions will protect wetlands, forests and open space, expand public access and enhance wildlife habitat.
